Recognition for running inspiring and impactful programme of events during Global Entrepreneurship Week 2010.

The Hull Youth Enterprise Partnership and Hull City Council has been recognised by Enterprise UK for successfully running an inspiring, impactful programme of events during Global Entrepreneurship Week 2010.

It means that Hull partners can use the Badge of Honour to show that recognition. Hull are one of just 131 out of over 700 Global Entrepreneurship Week event organisers who have qualified for this accolade - they were particularly impressed with our wider partnership approach and our link up with Mail News and Media as we seem to be the only ones that involved local media in the delivery and support and not just relied on them to publish stories

Charles Cracknell said
"Once again can I thank partners for their outstanding support for the campaign in Hull and for encouraging a change in attitude to entrepreneurship throughout the year and certainly Hull needs to celebrate and promote its  success"

National Apprenticeships Week

Claire Young the Patron of the Hull Youth Enterprise Partnership has endorsed National Apprenticeship Week, which takes place from Monday 7 to Friday 11 February 2011 and has a joint aim to highlight the talents and skills of apprentices and celebrate the value of Apprenticeships.

Claire Young former BBC Apprentice Star and Champion of National Apprenticeships said:

"I work with young people of all ages, all skills, all over the UK for at least two days a week so I have first hand experience of what their needs are. In the current economic climate it's critical they have aspirations and are encouraged to find information, and gain insight, of all opportunities available to them.

Many young people are feeling discouraged by the tough job market. It is really important that we continue to motivate young people and provide them with both the tools and confidence to maximise their abilities. In order for the economy to improve we need a skilled, confident, positive workforce. Organisations like Hull Training and their colleagues are certainly providing that through their various apprentice programmes.

I believe Apprenticeships are the key solution - allowing people earn whilst they learn, are straight on the career ladder and acquire new skills. As an entrepreneur passionate about business it's critical we continue to develop, train and nurture young people so tomorrow's business tycoons evolve and I am pleased to support Apprentices in Hull especially with the development of the new jobs in area following the Siemens announcement of up to 10,000 jobs associated with the wind turbine industry coming to the Hull and the Humber in future years."

The start of Crazy Critters World – 15 years old Bronwyn Wilson

Bronwyn Wilson is aged 15 and home educated she didn’t think that h er habit of sewing a few strange sock and fabric creations using any material she could get her hands on was more than a childish phase but as she kept producing more and more she decided they needed a new home. As a result she started selling them to friends and family, the success of which encouraged her to approach a local art shop to stock and sell her fanciful creations.

They were an immediate success and she has gone on to sell hundreds of what were now becoming know as Crazy Critters World, (“As they all have a slightly quirky, crazy character or design!”) which also became the name of the company she set up.

She has gone on to expand the basic sock range into many different fabric items including badges, bags, box-framed Critters, sculptures and mobile-phone holders. With the help of the John Cracknell Youth Enterprise Bank to buy a sewing machine, she’s got even more ideas and plans for expanding her business. Support has also been forthcoming rom another direction with Maureen Foers OBE, Yorkshire Women’s Enterprise Champion, now acting as Bronwyn’s business mentor. Bronwyn has done specialist critters for a range of well known people including Shadow Chancellor Alan Johnson MP, blind explorer Miles Hilton Barber, Claire Young, Ruth Badger and Lord Sugar

Bronwyn also won Hull’s Badgers Sett Enterprise challenge impressing former BBC Apprentice Ruth Badger so much that she gave extra support to bronwyn in terms of help in developing a future website since winning in Novemvber Bronwyn has taken on her cousin and a student to undertake some of the production work and established a her business at her parents house. Bronwyn is an adviser on support needed by young people and on the design of Hull’s Myplace facility

Starting from humble beginnings – Richard Myers

Hertz Web Solutions is a UK based business, started by 21 year old Richard Myers in May 2007. Hertz Web Solutions provides individuals and businesses with web hosting, web design, site management, corporate identity services.

Richard has been interested in business from a young age as he was a National Finalist in the Young Enterprise scheme in 2003/2004; naturally he had wanted to run his own business since then. Since starting Hertz Web Solutions Richard has extended his business acumen, often having to deal with situations and scenarios many businesses wouldn’t be able to cope with. A total lack of financial support initially meant that Richard had to fund his fledgling business out of his own very meager funds; this limited him quite a lot.

Hertz Web Solutions had no choice but to exhaust all free marketing methods available, then a grant application to Hull Youth Enterprise was approved. Hertz Web Solutions now has proper funding and is a successful and profitable business. The future of Hertz Web Solutions will most definitely be in web hosting and general design working in partnership with young people in Serbia and America.

Richard states: “We currently have a small yet solid client base for all of our services/products despite being a relatively new business; we hope to grow further in the coming months by adding further products and improving our current range”.

Richard was one of the major sponsors of Global Entreprenurship Week 2010 in Hull and as part of his commitment to social responsibility hosts free of charge a number of youth enterprise partnership websites such as Badgers Sett Enterprise Challenge www.hullbadgers.co.uk and Hull’s primary enterprise programme Hull Ready www.hullready.co.uk as well as the partnership sites www.youthenterprise-hull.co.uk and www.youthenterprise.co.uk. He is also an enterprise adviser to other young entreprenurs
